I cultivate a nonanxious presence for myself by not complaining, slowing down, focusing on one things at a time, and eating meals without rushing at not at my desk.

Don’t believe the story of powerlessness-oh -I have never realized how much I do believe that story. Somehow it’s become conflated with a bad definition of meekness. So much to unravel for me- THANK YOU.

Thank you for the repost. I have heard you say the phrase “being a non-anxious presence for myself” on many occasions (I use insight timer) and to hear it explained helps me greatly. I have had occasion lately to need this at my seasonal job, which I really enjoy, but this season has been especially trying and having a better understanding of it allows me to apply it in my life. Thanks for reposting from the archives🙏🏽❤️ I needed this reminder on being a “non-anxious presence for myself” as I begin a new ministry assignment as Associate Chaplain at a residential program for children displaced from their families for a variety of reasons—most of those reasons trauma-based.

Laughter—the deep, belly shaking, tears inducing variety—has become my antidote for mitigating stress overload. On the first day of my new position I noticed my breathing was more shallow and fear messages about starting a new job were running on the tracks of my mind. I called one of adult children whose wisdom, wit, and “don’t give two f¥€#s” attitude restored my access to deep breathing when she advised me to remember “who you are, and walk in like you’re not to be f¥€#’d with, PERIODT. We howled with laughter together😅😂😅😂 Immediately, I could feel my cortisol levels regulate and sailed through first day orientation fully present to myself and my new colleagues.

Laughter IS good medicine. Ashe~
