I'm looking at your book to my left. Maybe it's actually time to do more than look

Thanks for reposting from the archives🙏🏽❤️ I needed this reminder on being a “non-anxious presence for myself” as I begin a new ministry assignment as Associate Chaplain at a residential program for children displaced from their families for a variety of reasons—most of those reasons trauma-based.

Laughter—the deep, belly shaking, tears inducing variety—has become my antidote for mitigating stress overload. On the first day of my new position I noticed my breathing was more shallow and fear messages about starting a new job were running on the tracks of my mind. I called one of adult children whose wisdom, wit, and “don’t give two f¥€#s” attitude restored my access to deep breathing when she advised me to remember “who you are, and walk in like you’re not to be f¥€#’d with, PERIODT. We howled with laughter together😅😂😅😂 Immediately, I could feel my cortisol levels regulate and sailed through first day orientation fully present to myself and my new colleagues.

Laughter IS good medicine. Ashe~
