What is No Trifling Matter?

Hey! I'm glad you're here. I'm Chanequa Walker-Barnes. Most people call me Dr. Chanequa, or simply, Dr. C. I'm a psychologist, theologian, and justice advocate whose work focuses on healing the legacies of racial and gender oppression. I've written a few books: Sacred Self-Care, I Bring the Voices of My People, and Too Heavy a Yoke.

No Trifling Matter is where I share reflections and resources about faith and spirituality, oppression and justice, trauma and healing. In addition to weekly blog posts, it includes guided meditation recordings and resource guides on self-care, intersectionality, racism and white supremacy, and racial reconciliation.

Mainly, I'm just out here trying to be well while living under the siege of intersectional oppression and chronic illness. Hopefully, I can help you to do the same.

"Are you sure, sweetheart, that you want to be well?… Just so’s you’re sure, sweetheart, and ready to be healed, cause wholeness is no trifling matter. A lot of weight when you’re well." – Toni Cade Bambara, The Salt Eaters
