The parallels you write about are striking. I can feel the weight of the doctor being wrong, voting results being wrong. Thank God you have survived and can share your story. Thank you for the coping strategies and hope. And I think I will bring my passport, too.

Thank you for the reminder that life continues, whether we are directing others or not.

I needed this today. And every day. It’s hard not to get discouraged. I’m limiting myself to checking news one time a day so I can’t get obsessed with what’s happening. We can’t let this administration wear us down.

I was being hyper-vigilant, thinking our world as we know it could implode at any moment. Multiple times a day I was telling my husband the latest proof of my fear. He finally told me he could only deal with it a few minutes a day and not at random moments. He was willing to listen one or two times a day. Setting that boundary with me initially hurt, but reminded me of a time he set similar limits with me when I was healing from rape. It was a healthy boundary. I chose to read less and look for humor and joy during the day instead. I discovered that watching baby reels filled my heart with joy and hope. I became less vigilant. I am focusing on what I can actually. Going to town halls, protesting, building community with like-minded people. I am feeling stronger and less a victim.

I just happened upon this by clicking a few different things and want to say how well written this is and what good advice you give. What comforts me the most is knowing that we’re all in this together, meaning that I have my loved ones with me but also about 50% of everybody in this country.

“So then I started cursing out loud. It’s become a bit of a habit now, not because I’m trying to be shocking, but mainly because there are a lot of things happening in the world that can best be expressed by a well-chosen curse word. You do realize that when Jesus called people a “brood of vipers” that he was really saying, “you MFers,” right?”

This is so resonant! Thank you for sharing your journey and your insight. 🙏🏾

Thank you. Indeed the persons in power currently are cancer. An element that I find so deeply deeply disturbing is that this cancer is nurtured by the men and women who have the most privilege. These men and women will not feel the pain or suppression the rest of us have felt and continue to feel. Thank you for courage and wisdom and know it and are being returned to you.
