I just finished the breath awareness meditation! Thank you for offering that resource, Dr. Chanequa! Right when you talk about how your mind might start to drift — I had indeed started thinking about something else 😂😂 It was amazing timing!

Hi Corrie, I have a big day tomorrow and Thursday (Leadership Conference) and I am just coming back from another conference. I did feel a bit overwhelmed by ALL the things. However, I join you in that the breath awareness meditation was such a delight! Like really lifted me and helped me to take still moments and hone into what is present in this moment. In the reading today, Dr. Chanequa, reminds us to be aware of our needs and desires. My need in this moment is to definitely not TAKE on others stuff, I need to tend to ME! That's my affirmation for today!

I used the breath awareness mediation twice now and had the same thing happen (mind began to drift and there was the gentle reminder).

The part of the reading that really resonated with me was that of making choices based on what I think other people want/prefer. I really struggle with this and it makes me really indecisive at times. I think this may be rooted in a couple things including pride that I’m so ‘flexible’ and can accommodate others. I am going to work at taking some baby steps with this.

My experience with mindfulness has been spotty at best.

One of my undergrad psych classes was on mindfulness. Throughout that semester, we were required to listen to a mindfulness/breath awareness podcast at least 4 times per week and write weekly reflections about our experiences with this. I found it incredibly frustrating to focus only on my breath for more than 40 seconds at a time!!!

Honestly, I find breath awareness to be the most challenging type of meditation because my mind wanders so much. Today, I listened to Dr. Chanequa’s breath awareness and, indeed, my mind did wander a lot. However, this time, I was gentle with myself and non-judgmental when my thoughts wandered, which was better than criticizing myself for “not doing the meditation the right way”.

There no major revelations as I listened today. However, I did notice that my breathing tends to be fairly shallow at times. Mostly, I really just enjoyed listening to Dr. Chanequa’s voice!

40 seconds is actually pretty impressive! Remember that mindfulness is not about silencing the mind. It's about noticing what the mind is doing.

This is a wise word. This is why mindfulness is a practice. We never perfect it. We just keep practicing.
